SNOWMOBILE FAQs
Do I have to stay in a cabin to rent snowmobiles?
No, snowmobile rentals are available to everyone.
Is there an age requirement for renting a snowmobile?
All renters must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid credit card and driver's license.
Is there an age requirement for operating a snowmobile?
Utah Law requires snowmobile operators to be at least 16 years old with a driver's license. Bear River Lodge policy requires operators of the Summit 550’s and GTX 550’s to be 16 years old or older and the Summit REV 600 to be 18 years old or older.
Can more than one person ride a snowmobile at a time?
Yes, our GTX snowmobiles are 2 or 3 person capable. The 2 up GTX is capable of taking up to two adults. Our 3 up model GTX can accommodate two adults and a child 10 years and younger. Make sure when making your reservation to specify whether you need the single, 2 up or 3 up machine.
I have never operated a snowmobile before, is instruction available?
Our professional staff will go over a map and make suggestions as to where to ride that will best suit your group as well as provide instruction on operating the snowmobile. Most inexperienced riders feel quite comfortable within a short time aboard the snowmobiles.
Do you recommend riding single or double?
Most of our renters prefer to ride single. However, anybody under the age of 16 years must ride as a passenger. Most inexperienced riders still prefer to ride single, but if you lack the confidence to drive on your own you may prefer to ride 2 up.
What snowmobile clothing is recommended, and what clothing do you offer to rent?
Good quality winter clothing such as ski and snowboard clothing is your best bet. It is best to dress in layers and to avoid cotton. Wool and synthetic fabrics such as fleece works best for insulating layers. Outer layers should be wind proof and waterproof to offer the best protection from the elements. Boots should be very well insulated, tall and waterproof. Snowboard boots work well. We offer to rent full snowmobile suits, boots and full face helmets. We do not rent gloves, but do have a selection available for purchase.
How long before my rental should I arrive?
It is a good idea to arrive 15-30 minutes before the rental time to take care of paperwork, helmets, and clothing (if needed).
What elevation is the Lodge at?
The Bear River Lodge is 8,100 feet. The snowmobile trails range from about 8,000 to 11,000 feet.
What is included with a snowmobile rental?
Our rates at the Bear River Lodge are some of the lowest in the state. In addition we purchase new snowmobiles and helmets every year. Because of this we do not include a helmet in the rental price of a snowmobile. Helmets are charged at a rate of $5 per helmet. This allows us to purchase new full face snowmobile helmets which are typically more comfortable and warmer than what the competition throws in for free. Oil is charged at $8 a day and gasoline is sold at 15% off our pump price for our rental guests. In some cases you can rent a machine, helmets, suit and boots as well as oil and our damage agreement for the same amount our competition will rent you a snowmobile and a helmet for.
Is snowmobile insurance available?
No, but we do offer a damage agreement. Our damage agreement is not insurance and does not cover personal injury or other equipment. It does cover damages to the machine it was purchased for. The damage agreement is $16 per day, per machine for our 550 snowmobiles and $35 per day, per machine for the 600’s. The damage agreement then limits your responsibility for any damages to $800 per machine. This is considered the deductible or your max out of pocket for damages. Damage agreements do not cover down time caused by damages or recovery costs. Damage agreements are recommended but not required.
Why rent from Bear River Lodge?
There are three compelling reasons to rent from the Bear River Lodge. First, we purchase new snowmobiles and helmets every year. This provides our guests with the highest quality equipment at a reasonable rate. Second, we border the 1.2 million acre Wasatch – Cache National Forest. These mountains are Utah’s tallest and most scenic. The groomed trail system has multiple locations at near 11,000 ft with spectacular views of peaks that tower up to 13,000 ft. Lastly we have a professional staff that is focused on guest service and your enjoyment and satisfaction.
